Had A Garden In Virginia
Written by Tonya Henderson Rollyson - VFAA 2009 PAN Award II
Had a garden in Virginia with Rose of Sharon climbing up the hillside where the Daffodils reside and Humming Birds sat to eat apples. Bees were to be found socializing in the Forsythia and the Slugs found their solace in the Iris Bed.
Had a garden in Virginia where the Honeysuckle fell gracefully over barbed wire and the Crooked Willow moved to the music in the wind. Wild Wood Rose and Ivy cascaded their way up the concrete wall that protected the Peonies and one Flowering Almond.
Had a garden in Virginia that smelled of Pine needles and Dogwood and the Hydrangea were in white, blue and pink. Feverfew grew in the shadows and Tulips in the sun, while the Primrose and the Hosta preferred a little of both.
Had a garden in Virginia where forts were built with ice and snow, angels lay in waiting and the men had orange noses. The children played on the swing set, bravely climbed trees, and I lost you - but found me.
